CLASSES

Can I hold classes in-person during Autumn Quarter?

Classes can be held in person if they have been approved to do so by your school's Dean's Office. Additionally, if approved, please note that health and safety procedures such as face coverings and social distancing are required.

For more information, please review the Registrar's Office's Autumn 2020 In-Person Instruction page.

Can classes take place indoors during Autumn Quarter?

To reduce the transmission of the novel coronavirus, both indoor and outdoor gatherings are generally prohibited per California State order. Only classes requiring specialized indoor classrooms (e.g., labs, studio arts) are permitted. There is a 10-person maximum limit or 25% of room capacity, whichever is less (subject to change). All classes taking place in person must first be approved by your school's Dean's Office.

For more information, please review the Health Alerts page.

How can I request to use an outdoor classroom for my class during Autumn Quarter?

If your school’s Dean’s Office has approved your class to meet in person, then ask your Student Service Office to submit an CLSS form in CPS.

How do I find where my outdoor classroom is located?

On the Stanford Campus Map, we are able to locate outdoor classrooms. To view all outdoor classrooms, click on the three dashes that are to the left of the Search field, choose Life on Campus, then Outdoor Classrooms. Click on each classroom icon to view the name of the location.

Which restrooms can we access when using an outdoor classroom?

There are restrooms that have been designated for each outdoor classroom. Please refer to the signage at each outdoor classroom that will show which restrooms are accessible.

What do I do if conditions become too bad to hold classes outdoors(e.g. rain, cold temperatures, smoke, etc.)?

As an instructor you have the agency to move your class online, or to cancel a class meeting outright if conditions become too uncomfortable or unhealthy for outdoor instruction.

How long will these restrictions be in place?

The restrictions are in place until local and national health and safety guidelines change and pandemic conditions approved in Santa Clara County.

They must meet the requirements outlined on the Health Alerts page for such activities. We strongly advise all meetings that can be held remotely be held remotely.

Meeting indoors for activities that do not have a pedagogical need for it is prohibited.
