Class Notes

There are two kinds of notes: standard notes and free notes.

Standard Notes

We have created a list of notes that are frequently used, many of which formerly were indicated as Attributes in Course Catalog. These notes are now added only in the PS Depatment Course Maintenance pages. Follow this procedure to enter standard class notes:

  1. Go to either STF Dept Schedule of Classes (for non-crosslisted courses) or STF Dept Schedule Class Mtgs (for crosslisted courses) in PeopleSoft.

  2. Search the relevant class and term as usual.

  3. Once you are in the record, click on the Notes tab.

  4. Under class notes, see the section marked "Note Nbr". If you know the correct note number, you can enter it in the small box to the right of "Note Nbr". If you do not know the correct note number, click on the magnifying glass, then click on the Lookup button. Find the note you want to enter, and click on it. If you use this note a lot, you might want to remember the note number as this will save you time in entering it in the future.

  5. To add another standard note, click the plus button on the right, and repeat the procedure as many times as necessary.

  6. Please be sure to add the WIM note (#0048) to all your WIM courses. Do NOT add any GER, Language, or Writing requirement notes other than WIM; this information is extracted automatically by the TIme Schedule report from the GER course lists, and it does not appear here.

  7. You may also enter a free note in the free note box by adding a row after the last standard note that you enter; if you have no standard notes, you may simply type in the free note box. The free note should always be the last note in the sequence. Be sure that there is no equivalent standard note before entering a free note.

  8. To see all your notes, click on "View All" in the Class Notes purple bar.

  9. When you are done, click Save.

Free Notes

Free notes should be very short. We ask that you check your spelling and that you use ONLY standard subject codes (i.e., use POLISCI not PS, etc.); there is a complete list of correct subject codes on the last page of the Bulletin. Do not use double spaces after periods, and do not type any note in all caps. The Registrar's Office reserves the right to edit any note.

Follow this procedure to enter standard class notes:

  1. Be sure that there is no equivalent standard note before entering a free note.

  2. Go to either STF Dept Schedule of Classes (for non-crosslisted courses) or STF Dept Schedule Class Mtgs (for crosslisted courses) in PeopleSoft.

  3. Search the relevant class and term as usual.

  4. Once you are in the record, click on the Notes tab.

  5. Enter all your standard notes first, then enter your free note text in a new row after the last standard note.

  6. When you are done, click Save.
