Important Information Regarding COVID-19

Conferral Date: the day your degree is awarded.
Commencement Date: the June graduation ceremony.
Diploma Distribution Date: the day your diploma is available for pick-up or mailing.


All diplomas are mailed by Regular First Class Domestic or International through the United States Postal Service (USPS) with tracking.

It is important to note the following:

  • Once your diploma is mailed you will receive an email with tracking information.
  • The address indicated in the application to graduate should be able to receive mail through the end of the calendar year.
  • If you are moving please provide the USPS a forwarding address.
  • Picking up your diploma at the Student Services Center is not available at this time.
  • Diplomas will be mailed with diploma covers.

We share in your disappointment that there may be delays in obtaining your paper diploma. There are alternative ways to show evidence of your Stanford degree:

  • Electronic Degree Certification through Axess available starting the day after conferral and a turnaround time of 30 minutes.
  • Paper Degree Certifications through our Online Document Portal starting the day after conferral with a processing time of 5 business days. FedEx options with tracking is available.
  • Electronic CeDiplomas will be available on the dates list on Obtaining Your Diploma.

When will my degree show as awarded?

The conferral of degrees is posted to your permanent record approximately three business days after the conferral date. Degree recipients who require evidence of conferral may order official transcripts to be issued after degrees are posted, or alternatively, may request a degree certificate (Enrollment Certification).

What academic information will appear on my diploma?

All diplomas bear the signatures of the current University Chair of the Board of Trustees, President, and School Dean.

When will distinction appear on my diploma?

Distinction is awarded to the top 15% of the graduating class based on cumulative grade point averages calculated at the end of Winter Quarter. Distinction is noted on both the transcript and diploma. If you receive distinction it will be printed on your diploma in the Spring. If you conferred your degree in a previous quarter your diploma will be reprinted with the distiction notation after Spring Quarter and mailed to you.
