Important Information Regarding COVID-19

For quickest response to an issue, please submit a ServiceNow Ticket to the Student Services Center. If you prefer to talk to an SSC Specialist, we offer advising sessions via Zoom by appointment. Our LiveChat option is temporarily unavailable so that the SSC can focus on answering the very large volume of Autumn Quarter tickets.

Thinking Matters

Students entering Stanford as freshmen are required to take one Thinking Matters (THINK) course during their freshman year. Most students take one stand-alone course selected from approximately eight courses offered each quarter.

Alternatively, students may take  one of these residence-based, year-long programs:

Each of these also satisfies at least part of the Writing and Rhetoric Requirement as well as several Ways requirements.)

Another option, in Autumn Quarter only, allows students to enroll in Education as Self-Fashioning (ESF) that satisfies the Thinking Matters requirement as well as PWR 1.
