Students start the graduation process by completing the online application to graduate. Students are required to have an active registration status in order to apply to graduate, and must either be enrolled in courses for the quarter or in an approved special registration status. Degree candidates should be aware of application deadlines and University graduation requirements, and should refer to the appropriate graduation checklist guide below.

Spring 2020 Commencement will not be conducted in person due to the COVID-19 crisis. See the University's Commencement website for updates about the Virtual Celebration of 2020 Graduates. No matter what happens this year, eventually when conditions are appropriate, Stanford will hold an in-person, on-campus ceremony for 2019-20 graduates.
Degrees are awarded four times in the academic year, with University graduates normally recognized at Spring Commencement each year. See the Stanford Events' Commencement web site for full information on Commencement Day events.
