Cardinal Care and Special Registration Statuses

Stanford University requires all students to maintain continuous health insurance, and automatically enrolls students in Cardinal Care at the start of a student's entry quarter every year (for most students, this is September 1st). Cardinal Care is a year-long plan, and coverage runs from September 1st - August 31st of the following year. Thus, students approved in any of the abovementioned registration statuses will be automatically enrolled in Cardinal Care, and they will be allowed the option to waive Cardinal Care by the waiver deadline of their entry quarter (see deadline chart below). If you are registered after the waiver deadline of your entry quarter, and wish to waive Cardinal Care, then you must contact the Vaden Health Insurance Office at (650) 723-2135.  If you do not take steps to waive Cardinal Care, you will remain enrolled. Please see the Waiving Cardinal Care (domestic students) page  or the Waiving Cardinal Care (international students) page for details on how to request a waiver for Cardinal Care. Please also refer to the Vaden Health Center page and Student Health Matters annual publications for Cardinal Care deadlines, policies, and guidelines.
